PottyMD Book:Watches with automatic reminders are excellent tools to children on a potty schedule. These watches are especially helpful during the day, when the parents are not present or when they are having difficulty reminding their child to go to the bathroom often. Depending on a child's schedule, the watch timers should be set to alarm or vibrate at every 11/2 to 2 hours. Special watches with auto reset timers are ideal. The watch can be set to repetitively alarm at set intervals without requiring reprogramming. The watch will sound or vibrate and then start to automatically countdown again. This countdown will repeat throughout the day until the timer is stopped by the parent at nighttime. Younger children usually enjoy the watch and do not mind an alarm. Teachers and parents who hear the alarm should also instruct the child to go potty. Older children may be embarrassed by an alarm and desire a watch that vibrates. Vibrating watches provide more options, but they are usually more expensive and larger than watches that sound an alarm. These watches require that the child respond to the reminder and not ignore it.
