Automated Medication Dispensing Machines MDM Pilot
Background
The California legislature adopted Senate Bill 72 (SB 72), which authorized the establishment of a Home and Community Based Medication Dispensing Machine Pilot (MDM Pilot) Project.
The intent of this project is to assist individuals who are living in the community to remain within their home environment and avoid unnecessary emergency room, hospital, and nursing facility admissions due to those individuals not taking medications as prescribed (non-adherence). This assistance will be in the form of automated medication dispensing machines that can improve medication adherence. The beneficiary population most affected by this initiative is high risk seniors who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medi-Cal, as well as persons with disabilities and other select Medi-Cal recipients
